Fun educational project on History and Innovation is now in Russian!

Our Russian voice-over artists are so grateful for the opportunity to work on projects that make this world a better place while also having TONS of FUN!

Our talented artists Dmitry, Viktoria, and Mikhail lent their voices to flying robots Alif, Opti, and Terra – guardians of three vibrant virtual pavilions for Expo Dubai/UAE 2020. These fun and interactive robots teach key principles:

Mobility (movement of people, objects, and ideas, both past and future)

Opportunity (specifically, Energy, Food and Water)

Sustainability (the beauty of nature and humanity’s impact on the environment)

How People Perceive Tone of Voice

Do you ever pay attention to how you react or feel depending on the tone of voice a person is speaking in? Humans tend to react, in verbal communication, by how they perceive they are being spoken to. This is no different in advertising, film or music because each evokes emotion and thought.

Tone of voice is one of the most influential elements of communication. Have you noticed how people’s tone of voice can differ depending on the intended audience? Or, how they wish to be perceived. Even if you don’t know the language someone is speaking, one can figure out a lot simply by examining the tone of voice being used.

A study conducted by The Laboratory of Instrumental Analysis of Communication at the Autonomous University of Barcelona on tone of voice and perception had some interesting findings. Here are several examples:

  • A deep tone of voice implies maturity and generates trust in other people. It’s also a common tone in advertisements.

  • If someone’s tone of voice is extremely deep, it actually conveys a dark feeling.

  • A firm, confident tone of voice makes you think the person talking is distinguished and important.

  • Talking in a quiet tone of voice makes you think the person has major weaknesses or is awkward.

  • People who have a really high tone of voice don’t convey much credibility.

Tone of voice can influence a person’s perception. For example, let’s say you are trying to sell a luxury car and you want the person looking at it to trust you. If the study results are accurate then talking to the interested party in a deeper tone would generate trust. This is because people perceive a deeper tone of voice (as opposed to a higher tone of voice) as someone with maturity. Maturity also equates to respect in most cultures.

Another example, I can personally attest to, is that in Russia, we understand that when a topic is sensitive, speaking in a softer voice will help evoke a sense of calm in people.

As a voice-over artist, my job is to provoke people into an action; by understanding not just the desired result, but also who the intended audience is, I am able to adjust my tone of voice to portray a role. In this role, I am either going to provoke people to trust or experience an emotion that moves them into action. My professional training in theatre has proved very helpful in voice-over artistry because although people cannot see my face, they can feel what I am feeling, get pulled in to whatever situation I am attempting to relay. The audience should be able to perceive the intended message, then want to know more or keep listening. The ear is sensitive, so what people hear needs to be believable, therefore the tone of voice used needs to be authentic as to give the intended and desired perception, regardless of whether it is an advertisement, eBook reading or film.

Translators Without Borders

Often, this time of the year we are looking for opportunities to give back. I am lucky to confess that another great pro-bono opportunity found me. It is my greatest pleasure to serve a “bigger purpose” and positively influence the lives of others.

Today, I recorded a video that promotes awareness about the spread of influenza for Translators Without Borders. Hopefully, I can share completed video with you soon. Stay warm and healthy!2016-12-25_2209

Source of Inspiration

Nature inspires artists in many different ways. Visiting the peaceful California mountains allowed us to unleash our creativity and bring it to another level. The Russian Voice-over team developed an experimental piece “Russian voice-over + Nature”. We spiced up our recording with organic nature sounds vs. recording it from a professional secure environment. Stay tuned to hear our creation!

Challenges with Advertising Translation

Whenever you are working on advertising translation from English into the Russian language you should encounter the following obstacles:

1. Russian text is 25% longer than English. This especially needs to be taken into consideration when a print ad or editorial piece was already designed. While our team wass working on Direct TV translations, we did our best not only to translate and make it sound native, but reduce the number of words.

2. Keep your audience in mind. No matter what your writing assignment is – always consider who will be reading it. Make your translation as user-friendly as possible. Your audience will thank you with a better conversion rate.

3. Never translate word for word. Yes, I understand, you are trying to be a good translator and showcase your bi-lingual capabilities. But this is not about you and your ego. This is about engaging your audience in the best possible way. People prefer when you talk to them on paper, just as you talk to them in real life. So be short and sweet. And remember: Brevity is the soul of wit.(c) Shakespeare

Russian Educational International Flash-mob

International Project “Totalni Diktant” is one of the kind educational flash mob, that connects Russian speaking people around the world for the same purpose: Encouraging people to improve Russian grammar.

This year, Russian Voice-Over Services along with Cloudberry Language School will be organizing this educational event in Chicago.

Our target audience is everyone who writes, reads, speaks and thinks in Russian. We have also noticed that Russian speaking immigrants tend to forget some key grammar rules. Our goal is give them a chance to get together and have fun while improving their language skills.

Last year, “Totalni Diktant”, gathered more than 30 enthusiasts at the Chicago Public Library. This year, we expect double the attendance.

We are inviting you to join us on April 18, 2015 at 2pm and try it for yourself. The event is FREE on a first come first serve basis.

“Jubilee” by Anton Chekhov

Congratulations to our great actors and Russian voice-over artists: Boris Kofman and Kristina Guzikova. They have just come back form Boston, MA were they had 4 successful sold-out performances of their newest Checkhov play “Jubilee”!

“Jubilee” was directed by young and talented GITIS alumni, Igor Golyak founder of Arlekin Players. Earlier this year Igor came to Chicago to meet the cast and choose the play. “Jubilee” (sometimes known as “The Anniversary”) is probably the least produced of the one-act comedies Anton Chekhov wrote before 1891. During three month rehearsal period Igor and Chicago’s actors transformed classical script into an unexpected show. Jubilee russian theater

Mastery of Love, audiobook in Russian

This journey took us a year and a half, from getting Don Miguel Ruiz’s blessing to completion of the project. But finally, the love tutorial is here. After reading, listening, and listening again, I realized that’s THE BOOK. Mastery of Love is Toltec wisdom on how to be successful in relationships. You will learn about your wounds from the past, and how it affects your present and future; love addictions, and how it’s the same as drug addictions; how to choose YOUR partner; conscious sex. Now, Toltec wisdom is available in the form of a Russian audiobook. Russian talent who worked on this project includes: Boris Kofman, Eugene Nemirovsky and Kristina Guzikova.

We would be happy if you could share this book with the ones you love!

“Don’t Worry”

While filming a movie in Kiev, Ukraine in late 2011, Ukrainian movie director Ganka Tretyak, invited Kristina Guzikova to voice-over part of her movie “Don’t Worry”. This movie about relationships, love, and music was filmed in Ukraine, Spain, and America. Ganka had a hard time finding someone to voice-over the female character in English, so Kristina lip-synced for Zhanna’s part. “Don’t Worry” was screened at a few international film festivals, including Berlin and New York City. “Don’t Worry” is now available on YouTube.maxresdefault
